Guide

Workspace Vault

PostSnail has two exports: encrypted Shell (.postsnail) for the creator and public Website ZIP (.zip) for publishing.

Encrypted Workspace

.postsnail is private, encrypted, and editable. It contains profile data, posts, drafts, assets, encrypted identity material, settings, commit history, plugin state, moderation data, tracker URLs, and export history.

Encrypted Local Cache

Browser-local editable Shell data is encrypted in IndexedDB too. Use Unlock Local Shell with the Shell passphrase to reopen it. If PostSnail detects old plaintext browser data, use Migrate Local Data, then Export Shell.

Public Website ZIP

The public Website ZIP is static output for hosting. It may include published public content, proof files, feeds, sitemap, public assets, and approved public comments. It is not the full project source.

Move To Another Computer

Export the .postsnail Shell, move it to the new computer, open the admin, open the Shell with the passphrase, unlock the publisher key, and export a new public Website ZIP when ready.

Passphrase Loss

If both browser storage and the .postsnail passphrase are lost, PostSnail cannot recover private keys, drafts, plugin state, rejected comments, or editable source data.

Legacy JSON Backups

Old JSON backups can still be imported. PostSnail validates them, rejects raw private signing keys, restores the workspace, and downloads a migrated encrypted .postsnail file.

Public ZIP Recovery Later

A published ZIP or deployed site can only recover public content. It cannot restore private keys, drafts, private plugin state, rejected comments, moderation notes, or recovery data.
