Site Moves

Site Moves let a creator retire an old Forest-indexed domain after publishing the same signed Shell at a new domain.

Why Site Moves Exist

If a creator changes domains, old Forest results can point to dead images or dead pages. A signed site move lets Forest hide the old indexed site without guessing or deleting history blindly.

Signed Move Record

The admin signs a postsnail-site-move record with mode move or mirror, fromUrl, toUrl, publicKey, bundleFingerprint, createdAt, feature declarations, extensions, and an ML-DSA-65 signature over canonical JSON.

Move Mode

Move to new domain hides the old indexed site and old posts from Forest search after Forest verifies the old indexed public key and the new live proof files use the same key and fingerprint.

Mirror Mode

Keep old domain as mirror stores the public relationship but leaves both domains searchable. Use this when both hosts should stay valid.

Admin Flow

Open Identity, unlock the publisher key, enter old domain and new live domain, choose move or mirror, then click Change Domain. The new Website ZIP must already be uploaded because PostSnail verifies the live proof before sending the move to Forest.

Public History

Accepted move records are stored inside the encrypted Shell. They appear in generated public proof metadata only when the creator enables move-history publishing.

Limits

Site Moves are not DNS ownership, legal identity, or deletion. Forest hides moved old sites from search but keeps a safe public audit row.
